Description: Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position in the Neutrino group at the Centre for Particle Physics of Marseille (CPPM), France. The successful candidate will work within the KM3NeT undersea neutrino experiment, and is expected to take a leading role on the analysis of the data recorded with the ORCA detector.

General information:

- Workplace: Marseille, Luminy campus

- Type of contract: CDD contract

- Contract Period: 2 years, with a possibility of an additional year

- Expected date of employment: 1st November 2020

- Remuneration: Between 2900 € and 3600 € monthly gross, according to work experience.

- Desired level of education: PhD

Missions: The CPPM neutrino team is strongly involved in the ANTARES and KM3NeT neutrino telescopes deployed in the abyss of the Mediterranean Sea, used for cosmic neutrino research and fundamental neutrino properties studies. The group is in particular responsible for the construction and exploitation of the KM3NeT/ORCA detector, which is under construction offshore Toulon (France) at a depth of 2450 m. This detector, optimized for the study of the atmospheric neutrino flux in the GeV range, aims primarily at the study of neutrino oscillations for the determination of the neutrino mass ordering and the measurement of neutrino mixing parameters. The successful candidate will participate to the analysis of the KM3NeT/ORCA data with the aim to take a leading role in the neutrino oscillation measurements.

Activities: Data analysis, participation to data taking, participation to KM3NeT/ORCA detector construction and calibration, participation to KM3NeT service tasks, activities of outreach and dissemination, student supervision.

Work context: The successful candidate will be based at CPPM, Marseille, France (http://cppm.in2p3.fr). The CPPM neutrino group, which has a long-standing experience in neutrino detection in the deep sea with the ANTARES and KM3NeT experiment, is currently responsible for the construction and the operation of the KM3NeT/ORCA detector. The successful candidate will participate to the research activities of the group. Travel to other laboratories of the KM3NeT Collaboration for Collaboration meetings, participation to shifts and eventually to ORCA sea operations are foreseen.

Skills:

- Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics

- Excellent analysis and software skills (python, ROOT, C++), teamwork abilities, fluent in English

- Experience in data analysis in a neutrino experiment is appreciated but not mandatory

Additional information: Interested physicists are invited to submit their application, including a cover motivation letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and copies of university degrees. They should also arrange for three letters of recommendation. All documents should be sent to Vincent Bertin (bertin@cppm.in2p3.fr). The review of applications will start in September 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
